Opole is famous for the annual National Polish Song Contest, gathering the elite of Polish singers. While visiting Opole, it is worth to see Holy Cross Cathedral, Franciscan Church, fragments of gothic walls and towers, as well as a group of renovated tenement-houses on the market square. You can also climb Piastowska Tower - a part of old Piastowski Castle, which is well known from TV transmissions of the National Polish Song Contest. Unique charm of old town is emphasized by "Opole Venice" - picturesque recess on Mlynowka canal. Castle of Silesian Piasts in Brzeg is a real pearl of renaissance, touching work of Italian architects, known as Silesian Wawel because of gallery and courtyard architecture.
